Ανοίγω το στόμα μου

Ανοίγω το στόμα μου κι αναγαλλιάζει το πέλαγος
και παίρνει τα λόγια μου στις σκοτεινές του τις σπηλιές
και στις φώκιες τις μικρές τα ψιθυρίζει
τις νύχτες που κλαιν των ανθρώπων τα βάσανα

Χαράζω τις φλέβες μου και κοκκινίζουν τα όνειρα
και τσέρκουλα γίνονται στις γειτονιές των παιδιών
και σεντόνια στις κοπέλες που αγρυπνούνε
κρυφά για ν’ ακούν των ερώτων τα θαύματα

I open my mouth

I open my mouth encompassing the archipelagos
it carries my words into its dark caves
whispering gently to the little seals 
that weep in the night over the sorrow of men

I carve my veins turning my dreams red
to become hoops in the parish of children
and sheets for the girls who lie awake
secretly listening to the miracles of love

The interpretation partly references the authorized translation in print of the poem "The Axion Esti" by Edmond Keeley and George Savidis (Anvil Press Poetry Ltd, 2007, ISBN 978 0 85646 356 3).
